MultiMedia CPR Training - American Heart Association

This was a fascinating article:
Research shows 20-minute CPR class works in USA Today, from AP, with regard to CPR training.  What we believe would further reinforce and add-value to such training is that the reference materials to trigger someone's training (whether in person or via :20 minute course) are always on hand -- www.firstaidpod.com -- Hopefully, someone will remember all of the steps and procedures -- but, sometimes a visual, aural or written reference will be what helps trigger that memory -- and, makes sure nothing is forgotten.

www.firstaidpod.com in iTunes(r) Store

After a bit of sorting out .m4a file formats for enhanced podcasts (Don't forget!  These podcasts include graphics and animation), we're now in iTunes/Store:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=115871409

We'd better figure out how to enhance our XML file so that our logo and description appears...

So, what of the iPod(r) format overall:  today's news, 14 million iPods(r) sold over the Holidays; 42 million total sales -- and:

-- Engadget: "Chrysler is the first american manufacture to offer iPod integration on their models. In 2006 over 40% of the cars sold in 2006 will offer iPod integration."

Hmmm? Maybe Chrysler would like to run some ads on FirstAidPod?  Help this info expand and be pushed out at no cost to the community...Perhaps we could include an enhanced podcast on "How to Change a Tire on your Chrysler Vehicle?"

And this was nice from BoingBoing:  Levi's wanted to get in on the Apple mania of MacWorld week and announced their new RedWire DLX jeans, which will have an iPod dock and controller joystick built into the pockets.

Interesting reactions...

Just catching up from the Holidays...and looking at the reactions to www.firstaidpod.com:

We appreciate the diversity of reaction and views of how this is a precursor to larger applications in this direction...

"And isn't this a further indicator of the potential of "anytime, anyplace" customized learning that is possible for the 'future of learning' and schools in general?

The reason this gets my attention -- save for the obvious 'wow' factor of people being able to get real-time assistance in critical life-saving situations -- is that there are immediate implications for how schooling is done.

Here is a great illustration of using PodCasting for Performance Support. FirstAidPod has created some audio (and graphic enhanced) PodCasts that walk you through emergency first aid procedures such as CPR. This is an intriguing use of PodCasts to mobile devices. Imagine being able to access a collection of 100 Emergency Procedures with step by step coaching.

I'm always fascinated when a medium initially intended as purely for entertainment transforms into so much more.

LAST, BUT NOT LEAST:

At some point they'll probably have a podcast on how to sew our own stitches after you take a header down the stairs because you were staring at your iPod when you should have been watching where you were going.

Audio Coupons for Podcasting

www.firstaidpod.com, in association with www.blastpodcast.com, will be implementing an "audio coupon" opt-in ad program to support the free delivery of Emergency First Aid enhanced podcasts.

These audio coupons will add value to the User's experience -- providing ad-matched goods and services that are appropriate and relevant to the User -- delivering discounts on items that are of interest to this community.

The first audio coupons will be from www.radtech.com -- who provide clever and great looking accessories for digital devices.

We hope you'll shop at RADTECH, and use the audio coupon's promotional code when it launches in the first week of January.

A range of interest -- about.com

We were very pleased to see that http://running.about.com/ has mentioned www.firstaidpod.com in their Running and Jogging editorial pages.  How many people run with their iPODs?  How many people could encounter a health emergency, their own, or someone elses in that space?

The editor expressed her interest in the cellphone version -- which we know makes perfect sense as well.

It's terrific to see the range of interest and varying demographic interest in this content.

Other curious items:  We've had alot of download traffic from Italy.  Hmmm?  Hello Italy.

We're also greatly encourage to see that the percentage of people who visit www.firstaidpod.com who go on to download the initial episodes is greater than 50%.

Podcast Audio Ad Coupons

As www.firstaidpod.com starts to develop traffic (and, downloads of our enhanced podcasts); we are endeavoring to implement a variety of non-invasive advertising/sponsorship programs that will allow us to include additional episodes, free to the User/Community.

As most media buys take place months down the road -- we are now offering an Audio-Coupon ("aurel incentives"), specific to products and services that bring value to our User/Community base.

So, if you provide a product or service you feel is of value to our community, and you have a "Promotional Code" feature on your Store -- we can deliver Audio Coupons through this podcasting space; under an affiliate program.  We can provide more robust ad solutions as well, including Geographic IP, CPM and realtime reporting, through our affiliation with www.blastpodcast.com

We don't want podcasting to be overwhelmed with advertising -- these will be User opt-in audio coupons a User must elect to GET during the download.  It's non-invasive and value-added -- hopefully, a win::win all around.

FirstAidPod's First Press

After a week of press releases -- we changed our campaign to:

"PRACTICE SAFE iPODing"

Lo and Behold, we start by being picked up by NERVE, in their
scanner section HERE. [NOT SAFE FOR WORK -- UNLESS YOU WORK IN A VERY .ALT ENVIRONMENT]

Yes, we can make CPR and First Aid strangely appealing across a
very broad demographic.  Because, it is as important as any
"safe-hyphenated" subject.

Practice Safe iPODing Campaign

In developing www.firstaidpod.com content and looking to expand its distribution into the cellular world -- we keep hearing about how the younger demographic just won't take to this content.

Yes, women respond very well -- the Oprah/Soccer-Mom etc. group -- But, let's face it, First Aid is not entertaining.

But, it is about life and death.  So, we started thinking about other life and death issues that a hipper, younger demographic might relate to -- and, safe sex came to mind.

Then, we carried that one step further -- because, let's face it, sex and death (which is really what CPR is about -- fighting death) is all about.

So, let's lighten up the marketing and campaign a bit -- let's make it appealing for a younger demographic -- Let's practice safe iPODing (should that have two "D" -- as in double "D's"?) -- iPODS are sold as sexy -- tastefully so -- but, all the same, those silhouettes are hitting folks on an "attraction" level.

Let's get the CPR instruction mash-up tune with your favourite Artist...

Let's speak in languages that relate to those who may use this content -- they are a smart and sharp generation (the eBook software was written by 18-year olds for goodness sake).

The Politics of PR in the Online World

There are a few sites we check out throughout the day -- sites that by their nature give off the essence of the Hipoise, Techoise world -- often sarcastic, but, also touching on subjects with depth, perspective and wit...

One, in particular, tends to feature cool and clever content -- and, there's a focus on mobile gadgetry.

Because we read these sites, we thought they'd also be hip to what www.firstaidpod.com offers -- but, perhaps CPR, Choking and Bleeding just don't provide material for double-entendres or tongue-in-cheek comment -- we have fallen into the realm of the preterite with them.

We've even offered them the headlines:  iPOD for iCPR -- or iPOD becomes a Lifesaver.  Maybe we need a more clever tag?  We're open to suggestions.

December 07, 2005

Who cares about CPR?

Who cares?

That's what we're starting to find out.

There are some advertisers and ad management firms who are not only taking an interest -- they are working to co-develop solutions in the advertising/podcasting space with us.

As well, the feedback from a couple of folks in the Mac/Apple product universe have been heartening and encouraging.

BUT -- we're also starting to see that this just isn't hip, sexy and glam content that grabs everyone's attention.

So, that's our job -- to make it more attractive -- to show that this is not just for "mothers-with-iPODs" (though, that's a large community) -- but, that this is for skateboarders-with-iPODs, etc.

More broadly, we are speaking with cell phone manufacturers and cellular service providers.  It's a mixed bag of reaction on that front.  Some folks immediately "get it," and want to facilitate this.  Some folks, "don't see a need for this...right now."

Hmmmm, I guess we can only hope they don't need this information.  We hope no one ever needs this information -- but, the reality is, somewhere, sometime, someone will.
